Into the 2nd half of this 6
pack soon..ride that 3 beer buzz. But before the next golden amber
here's the next nomination for Best Picture of the Week of O
From 1976 Richard Donner's The Omen
After their child dies @ birth
convinced by a priest Robert Thorn replaces him w/ another - Damien.
As bad luck would have it he's the son of Satan. As he matures a
slew of bodies are left in his wake including his nanny, a priest
that warns of this evil incarnation, a photographer & even his
own adoptive mother. Can Robert Thorn bring himself to kill the
Devil's spawn to save humanity?..probably not because of the dire
need for sequels.
Onto the jag as #4 is cracked
into..time for the award for Best Male Performance – The Bud
And the nominees are..
Charlton Heston as Neville in Omaga Man
Is it any wonder that Heston is a proud
card carrier of the NRA. He shoots to kill like he was born to carry
a gun. Plague infected albino's don't stand a chance against him.
Sure I might have enjoyed this movie more w/ Vincent Price when it
was called Last Man on Earth but Heston brings a fine 70s sensibility
to it all w/ his best role since Planet of the Apes.
Paul Simon as Jonah in One Trick Pony
Simon's understated style is a perfect
fit for One Trick Pony. W/ hardly any actual acting experience under
his belt he carries a leading role very well even if it isn't too
much of a stretch for him as a musician. His stage presence is his
strongest suit but when he has to deal w/ drama of family, his band &
music executives you believe his crossroads. As a true believer that
corporate record companies can suck a big dick Simon's final scenes
of this film makes me smile w/ glee.
Harvey Stephens as Damien in The Omen
Stephens hardly has any dialogue but it
doesn't matter. That child is fucking evil. If Satan's son does
come to this earth I have no doubt that he will look like Stephens.
His scene when he first goes to church is fucking hilarious although
that's just the dark bastard that I am. That look on his face is
worth a million dollars & has me rolling on the floor. You just
can't hone that craft @ such a young age. It's a thing of beauty &
because it is so naturally fitting he will always be Damien 'Son of
Satan'.
Dennis Hopper as Don in Out of the Blue
Hopper is a legend & in Out of the
Blue he is extraordinary. When you are first introduced to him he's
already going off the rails. When he seems like he back on the track
you have to watch w/ gritted teeth because you know it's only a
matter of time before he derails again. It's just a matter of
figuring out how many causalities he's going to take w/ him.
Watching an alcoholic of this magnitude is emotionally exhausting.
Peter Weller as Bart Hughes in Of
Unknown Origin
For the better part of Of Known Origin
Weller is a one man show...well one man & a giant fucking rat.
He makes this more then just a rodent infection film. It's one man's
obsession w/ ridding his home of this vermin that it consumes him
both mentally & physically. It's like falling down a spiral
staircase into a whirlpool. Because of him Of Unknown Origin is a
hell of a lot better then it has any right to be.
Clint Eastwood as Josey Wales in The
Outlaw Jose Wales
Eastwood knows the western genre like
the back of his hand. He was trained under the master Sergio Leone.
He really needs no guidance to give you a strong memorable
performance for this type of film. He's directing himself because
the pupil is now a master on his own but in an American sense. His
2nd strongest performance in a none spaghetti behind
Unforgiven.
And the winner is..
Dennis Hopper in Out of the Blue
Hopper left me fucking exhausted. As
soon as he put a bottle to his lips it was like watching on coming
headlights down a one way street. You know it's coming, you want to
get out of the way but you know no matter how much you swerve there
are going to be hardly any survivors. It made me want to cry if you
didn't despise him by the end. Once again Hopper is brilliant.
Still a couple more to go /Another trip
to the fridge.
Be back after this..
