Get to topping off this first half of
this 6 pack in a sec but before hand gonna roll out the next
nomination for Best Picture for the Week of O.
From 1976 Clint Eastwood's Outlaw Jose
Wales
After his family is killed farmer Jose
Wales becomes part of the Confederate resistance who is asked to join
The Union. He doesn't succumb & the other men are bushwhacked &
murdered. Jose guns down those responsible & is framed for the
onslaught for everyone involved. Wanted for the crimes Wales is
hunted across country by The Union & bounty hunters alike.
Time for the 3rd award of
the week for Best Female Performance – The C.L.I.T.
The nominees are..
Billie Whitelaw as Mrs Baylock in The
Omen
Sent from Satan herself to look after
Damien Whitelaw is slyly sinister as she knows the demon child’s
true calling. Hell she's so naturally beautiful sinister in the role
that someone should have made a movie just for her as an evil nanny &
had her casting agent jump all over it...plus I love how she throws
Lee Remick out of that window.
Frances Sternhagen as Dr Lazarus in
Outland
I would know Sternhagen later in her
career as Cliff Clavin's mother on Cheers but as the doctor on
Jupiter's mining colony she's sassy, smart & a nice addition to a
male driven cast in Outland. Connery might be a cinema legend but
Sternhagen steals just about every scene she's in w/ him.
Sophia Loren as Nora in Operation
Crossbow
Loren is a beauty to the eyes. As the
wife of a man in Nazi regime who's dead & being impersonated by
enemy operatives she pulls @ the heart stings a bit as she knows that
she will not live to see her children again. It's unfortunate that
she's not really in this film that much (even w/ high billing) but
her involvement is strong & I was sadden to see her offed.
Linda Manz as Cebe in Out of the Blue
If Manz was born 8 years earlier she
would have had a power house of a career. Natural & full of
spite she shines in Out of the Blue. Her performance is the stuff
that great movies from the 70s were made of..unfortunately Out of the
Blue came out in 1980 & the roles probably weren't there for her
as the industry changed.
Isabelle Fuhrman as Esther in Orphan
At such a young age Fuhrman has a hell
of a career ahead of her or she will constantly be haunted by her
fantastic performance in Orphan. She is the evil child for a new
generation manipulating the audience & those around her w/ a
proficiency beyond her years. A very mature role @ it's core Fuhrman
sops it up like a orderly w/ a sponge.
Rosalind Cash as Lisa in Omega Man
I'll give Cash koodoos just for having
to sleep w/ Charlton Heston. African American audiences should have
been in arms that she did. To sleep w/ a white man just because he
is one of the last men on earth is not reason to jump in bed w/ him
but then again compared to albinos like Matthias Heston might not
look so pale.
And the winner is..
Isabelle Fuhrman in Orphan
From the first moment Fuhrman appears
on screen she is something special. She exudes a natural drawing
power that makes you believe that Farminga & Sarsgaard's
characters were drawn to her. She plays the manipulation &
unspeakable acts w/ ease that it makes you fear & hate her but @
the same time be fascinated by her & what her motives are. When
this film twists she matures up to the role's demands very well.
Dead soldier but I still have another 3 to go.
Delve into the 2nd half of
this 6 pack after this..
