6 Pack Cinema vol VI..chapter 4

Capping off the first half of this 6 Pack to work on that 3 beer buzz in a moment but still more nominees for the Best Picture for the week of L.

From 1987 Marek Kanievska's Less Than Zero

Clay returns home from semester of college for Xmas & soon comes to realize that he is growing out of the spoiled California life style & his best friend Julian is a fucking mess. Even his ex-girlfriend Blair who he starts a romance up again w/ has quite the little cocaine habit of her own. Julian is up to his ass in debt w/ his pusher who is making him hustle to pay off the money owed but Clay hopes to save him from his demons, downward spiral of self destruction & keep his ass out of 8 inches of trouble.

Time for the 3rd golden amber of this week's 6 Pack for The Best Female Performance – The C.L.I.T.

And the nominees are..

Jeannine Mestre as Katie in Let Sleeping Corpses Lie

I like junkies in the 70s. I don't know if films from that era have a little grime around the edges and junkies always seem dirtier, hungrier & little more mentally unbalanced w/ the filthy habit. Mestre plays that nicely coupled w/ the terror of seeing her husband murdered & the threat of the living dead.

Jenny Agutter as Jessica in Logan's Run

Although personally I didn't find a lot to enjoy from Logan's Run I did like Agutter. She off set my annoyance of Michael York that I always have when I watch films of his. Fairly attractive I did find a very natural sensuality to her & didn't mind when she took off her clothes even though this film is pretty sly about it.

Marcia Rodd as Patsy Newquist in Little Murders

Rodd here is one of the characters that if I ever met a woman like this I would run for my fucking life. It's like she's on beans she has so much positive energy. Her thoughts on marriage & molding a man makes me hate & fear a multitude of the female populist. Watching her was like watching a horror movie in romantic comedy form.

Cathy Lee Crosby as Kay Butler in The Laughing Policeman

Personally I found Crosby could have used some more screen time. I think that she only has like 3 scene. As the wife of a cop who was killed in a bus shooting she's basically the only female in a film full of male flat feet. She has a great scene w/ Walter Matthau after he finds some dirty pictures of her & her deceased husband in his desk & is using them to get answers on his ex-partner's character. Matthau even gives her a cuff to the face & although she feels the sting she doesn't crumble from it. Unfortunately that's the last we see of her on screen.

Susan Saint James as Cindy Sondheim in Love At First Bite

Saint James is sorta in a thankless role in Love At First Bite as George Hamilton & Richard Benjamin steal every scene from her that they are in. Her character's sorta flaky & she carries that well. She's really more suited for prime time television like she was on Kate & Allie but she does hold her own even if her comic timing is a bit different then those around her.

Jami Gertz as Blair in Less Than Zero

No one can ever accuse Gertz of being a good actress but she is a pretty face & physically plays well on screen. I have seen Less Than Zero a number of time & usually she drives me crazy but this time I looked @ it in a different light..she's supposed to be high on cocaine. That would explain why it appears most of the time she's not quite all there..well except for that last scene where she's straight & grieving the death of Robert Downey Jr..maybe she did a couple of bumps & we just didn't see it.

And the winner is..

Marcia Rodd in Little Murders

I marvel @ Rodd & hated woman kind @ the same moment. As a male it takes you out of that safe zone & realize that a large percentage of the female population just might be from another planet. Just on its own it's frightening but Little Murders is quite offbeat & smart on it's own. She fits perfectly & when she is murdered it is almost as if this entire movie collapses. Until then you don't really realize how much weight she is actually carrying.

Half walk through but a lot come. You might have a slight buzz after the first 3 but you don't start feeling the effects until you throw a few more back.

Back after this..
